The kids will be in a brand new low income apt near Mill Plain, and SIL will be doing his speech path residency for a school district in Kalama. I had to look it up to see where it was in relation to Battle Ground. And here I thought I was done worrying about tornadoes for them.
To ease your mind, There may be 1-2 tornados formed in the sky every year, 90+/- never reach the ground. If they do, most do minimal damage and last just 1-5 minutes. This one was among the worst. No one was even injured with a booboo.
This part of Wisconsin is not officially in Tornado Alley (perhaps the outskirts of it) but we still manage to have several tornados every year. As already mentioned, most of them are sighted by spotters or shown in weather maps, but never (thankfully) touch down.
Our worst storm damage has come from "straight-line winds" rather than tornados.
