Good luck with your trees, but you may have to start over and give them the sunniest and southernmost windows of your house. On the other hand, you may not need curtains, if you do this.
Fortunately YOU don't have cats that attack and rip plants out of inside pots like they are at war...

Ok @mitch landen after your description of your back yard you know pics are in order right? You just cannot leave us hangin with that much goin' on!
Funny -- and that means I'll have to compose a shot to capture the "sense" of the yard. Some would say .... a junkyard? ....

Sad-to-say, no feng shwei for my house. Lots of southern exposure, BUT ... only a couple of bathroom windows, a glass door to a patio, and 1 regular window (nothing could be put there; too tight). Not to mention, the southern border of my little spread has tall pine trees and a few other species, and they only allow dappled light during the day. Whoever designed this place didn't have a clue re: using sunlight for plants. Idiot......

i feel your pain. this place was designed as an artist studio (the room i'm in most of the time) and gallery there was no consideration for southern exposure in the northern climate or what i'd consider common sense.

then to make it worse they planted some trees which now block the morning light and views of the back gardens.
