too many variables to know for sure what's going on. sorry... i do know that i've never had great luck with putting any spring flowering bulbs in planters - i'm sure it's possible, but i don't do it. i'm also sure that the bigger the planter the better the results might be, but that's going to have so much to do with drainage and mix used and also how it is watered and ...
if you used a mix that wasn't fully composted you may have had issues due to the mix fermenting and that would raise the temperature and spring bulbs really don't want the temperature up until after they've flowered and are dying back.
there may still be bits of bulb that are still alive which may grow again next season, but it is unlikely they'll flower again next year.
