hi, im new to this site but am fimaliar with BYC, i was wondering how you keep the things you pick fresh until you are ready to use them, for example, i picked about a half serving of green beans last evening and am hoping to have the other half by tomorrow . how do i keep these beans and such from drying out or what ever until i have enough to make a meal? i also have cucumbers and squash ...so far, garden is just starting to put out veggies.

You will fine just putting them in the fridge. I would use a plastic bag and add a paper towel, in case of moisture build up. Remember those same beans you purchase at the grocery have been around for weeks...Yours will still be fresh and delish! Enjoy!

Just like Lesa says, I pick green beans and put in a ziplock bag in the fridge. I have 6 preschoolers to feed lunch to and I seldom have enough in 1 picking, so I save them up. Welcome to TEG, you will love it here. Alot of nice people. :)

Lesa gave you good advice, the fridge is a miracle. Until Summer hits and you harvest so much you run out of room!!!

I don't know if it makes a big difference in all produce, but I don't wash the veggies till I get ready to prepare them to eat. Well, I do wash and clean lettuce and spinach. It keeps so well in the fridge as long as there is not too much water in the bag.
