How nice of you! I have an elderly neighbour who really likes rhubarb, but his patch doesn't grow well. So, I have kept way too many rhubarb plants in my garden so he can come over and harvest what he likes, and freeze some too. This has gone a LONG way into convincing my neighbours that my having a garden is a good idea. ;)
Well, she is in her 50s, so I wouldn't call her elderly. :gigHer mother was Slovenian (who had to flee her home in the middle of the night with her family when she was 7. I think they ended up being rescued by Nazis, then moved to Northern Italy and Mussolini, before, some years later, getting to the US.). So, the neighbor was raised on a lot of Old World/Eastern European kind of cooking, which includes a lot of cabbage.
