The subject of mortality has been weighing on my mind lately with so many of my peers (friends, relatives, husband, and singers/actors) departing this world, and myself inevitably not so far behind, so this oldie popped into my head and took root there:

Paul Simon - "Slip Slidin' Away"

"We work at our jobs, collect our pay, believe we're gliding down the highway when in fact we're slip slidin' away."

On a brighter, happier, and relevant note: Trey Eppes "The Garden Song"

Try changing the lyrics to Gilligan's Isle, @flowerbug and maybe it will help:

🎶 Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.🎶

🎶 Two Butterflies went out at Noon—
And waltzed above a Farm—
Then stepped straight through the Firmament
And rested on a Beam—

And then—together bore away
Upon a shining Sea—
Though never yet, in any Port—
Their coming mentioned—be—

If spoken by the distant Bird—
If met in Ether Sea
By Frigate, or by Merchantman—
No notice—was—to me 🎶

🎶 It's all I have to bring today—
This, and my heart beside—
This, and my heart, and all the fields—
And all the meadows wide—
Be sure you count—should I forget
Some one the sum could tell—
This, and my heart, and all the Bees
Which in the Clover dwell. 🎶
