Woah. That gets down in the weeds, quickly!

My grandmother married a Canadian who was the son of parents born in the south of England. Grandfather passed away before I had a chance to listen to him speak but Grandma Goldy also had a good friend from England who lived long after both of those grandparents were gone and our relationship with her continued through the years.

She lived in Vancouver and teased us about Washingtonians saying that they were from War-shington :D. I think that is just the tendency of many Westerners to carry some to the Southerners speech patterns.

Grandmother's ancestors and the other side of my family arrived in N America in the mid to late 1600's, about the time of that "Great Vowel Shift" in English. Both groups began their westward migrations by a very early move into the Appalachian region. And then, they just continued moving west. Grandmother arrived in the 1800's as a child. Dad was the last but it was the same westward migration only through Oklahoma and New Mexico to the West Coast.

No, they all didn't arrive with Lewis & Clark but well before Wendy's and Taco Bell LINK. W & TB? Heck's Fire, so did I !

Steve
