You can keep your Groundhog...
Here at my house we trust Zoop the Tortoise to tell us when Winter is over.

We have a zoop-like snapping turtle visitor every summer. She likes to lay her eggs in my soft garden soil. She is a long way off from her visit. We have MORE SNOW coming tonight and tomorrow. Nice picture!

Howdy Rebbetz, how does Zoop do it?
To be honest, I am not sure, but I think once the night temperatures reach about 50 degrees for about a week he shows up. And we have had some days in the 90's here, so... if we get another cold spell he will go back to his den.

He doesn't eat or drink for a week or two when he comes out of hybernation. I soak him for about 30 mins in a wading pool, wash his shell and put Vit. E oil on it. It is our Spring ritual.

So, Rebbetzin

That is why he looks so charming? Zoop must enjoy the opportunity to show up in your yard!

I stopped in the big veggie garden yesterday and there were obvious signs that a long-eared, fur-bearin, flat-footed varmint had been out there! Coincidence?
