we hit a whopping 73F later in the day but the early part of the day wasn't sure if it would rain on us or not. mostly not which is fine with me, but it was a kind of neat storm that went north of us - pretty much a self-contained blob that just went across the state.

chances of rain pretty much every day and night now for the rest of the week except Saturday. i'm hoping that tomorrow it will skip us long enough that i can get at least one more garden put up for winter even if it is a smaller one or whatever.

It felt like a breath of Summer today, warm & even slightly muggy. Lots of rain & thunder though, so couldn't take much time outside to appreciate it. The sun came out for awhile in the afternoon between waves of rain, which was nice.

But my garden isn't even dead yet, much less clean - and the rain is knocking down all of the leaves! And the garlic isn't in yet either. To judge by the extended forecast, no sign of dry weather until next week. :( No big deal in terms of the garlic, I've planted in November before, and the ground is still relatively warm.

No killing freeze until Sunday, but I'll need to at least remove the pepper cages & rip down some of the trellis string before then. Looks like it will be a dry - but chilly - Halloween for the Grandkids.

looks like chances of rain today and i'm now wondering if we got some sprinkles last night but i don't recall anything much more than that even if it looks like we should have gotten more, but i may have also just slept through it...

was hoping it would miss us at least long enough i could get one more garden done today. it's not too cold out there...

There has been terrible damage from the hurricane.

Here, it snowed lightly for about 3 hours yesterday. Throughout, the outdoor temperature was just above freezing. The snow had stopped by sundown and the thermometer fell to 25⁰f (-4⁰C) by 2AM. The wind dropped below 5mph by then and it has been warming.

No storm clouds – it's our near 80⁰f (26⁰C) weather from LAST Thursday warming us up. The earth and all that was on it was warmer than any 25f! Another plunge after a little more snow forecast for tonight.

The greenhouse (sunshed) behind tomatoes, kept plants inside above freezing with no heat. It won't be able to do that for long but, with plants on the floor and covered with a tarp, it will work okay down to 15f (-9C) no heat.

Our rainy season has arrived, with over 6" of rain at our place in the last two weeks. The ground is still very dry if you dig down a few inches, so things warm up nicely again when the rain subsides. This morning it was right at the freezing mark, so we awoke to white roof tops and lawns. I had placed pizza boxes on a few of my late-planted tomatoes, in the hopes that it will be enough to keep them going for a few more weeks; after two more nights with frost we should have unusually warm day and night time temperatures in the forecast for the next two weeks, around 10-15C (50-55F). 🤞

6" in two weeks, BranchingOut!

That would be right at 1/3rd of our annual rate ... counting the snow ... Snow? I can see a hill from the South Window snow-covered, this AM. It is only 3200 feet and I'm sitting at 2000. The sun is almost out and if it clears up I will be able to see a 5000 foot mountain if I move out away from this collection of houses and garages. Darn things ;).

Here's wishing you tomato-luck.

🤞 Steve
