Wow, I need to try this!! I always struggle with carrots.You punch holes in every cell before adding soil and carrot seeds. I will be doing this soon and planting in pots. I hope to avoid carrot flies.
I have had really good success planting radishes in the carrot rows, to mask the smell the flies gravitate to. Coffee grounds (fresh, not used) work pretty good too. If you can cover the smell of the foliage you won't have much of a problem with the flies. You do need to reapply the coffee occasionally as the smell wears off and the flies have a few life cycles.You punch holes in every cell before adding soil and carrot seeds.
