Your Weather, 2026

Warm--ISH. Feels cooler bc of the wind. Warm eNOUGH for me to turn off the heat. I have a heated blanket on my bed so I won't freeze. We'll see if I turn the heat back on again this season...
Otherwise I am getting fresh air in the house.
Taking a break. I moved specialty meat out of the downstairs freezer to let it defrost. No time to defrost the big garage freezer. I will move the 2025 meat into cardboard boxes and put them on top of the new. We have only had 2 packages of ribs go bad on us and they were 4yo, so very little loss.
I transplanted the basil and it's on top of the fridge. The pot for the rosemary is in my she shed--gotta use my tow wagon bc the cooler of meat going to DD's freezer might pull my back out if I carry it to my car. RIght now it's outside of the back door waiting to be moved.
Cleaned out the 4 cat litter boxes and put away the new cat litter. I had used my tow wagon to get the 40 pound boxes from the garage to the back door and staged them yesterday in between the 2 back doors. Easy peasy to turn the knob of the inside deadbolt and move them to the north wall of the fuel room, which has 2 big drums and used to house fuel oil. I will need to see if there is a buyer for them, or better to leave them be.
Now I heat with natural gas, instead of having them filled every year for the heating season.
Still wearing wool socks around the house. SICK of the cold!

last night was the last frosty night we will have this week if the forecast is right. on top of that today is the only day or night without some chance of showers or thunderstorms. and then to keep things interesting most of the days are going to be warm even into the 70sF.

warmer has certainly been nice but the rains keep coming and mud season is here. we have flood watches and warnings again for the next several days.

i keep wishing i could send this to the Colorado Rockies to help them refill those reservoirs...

i'm not sure when i'll be able to get out and get some peas planted but i hope within the next week or two as it seems we're now warm enough (all at once).

Hate to say it but probably perfect Spring planting weather. I got 2/3 of the blueberries in. Since I moved the dark pink peonies to DD's house I Had to give them one of the peony cages I bought for My blueberries. I had a dr checkup yesterday morning, which brought me into town, so I shopped and bought one more cage. The last blueberry has leafed out nicely and is ready to be planted before the rain tomorrow and thursday.

last night was ok here for us but some people don't have power at the moment due to storms last night. plenty of rain here with more chances to come yet this next few days so we're back under flood watches and flood warnings.

this was an interesting line in the flood warning/watch notice for the weather services as i'd not seen this usage of the word training before:

"Any training of storms could lead to localized flooding."

last night when the storms were clearly coming at us and contained hail and chances of tornadoes i guess apathy was my main feeling as i was tired and just wanted to go to sleep, i turned off the computer and unplugged things so lightning wouldn't be as much of a risk or worry. and then as the storms arrived and the first few pings of hail on the fireplace spark arrestor cover and then it was windy i was like "Meh, I'm going to sleep." and i did. even if it was a rather impressive storm and group of storms. my only concession a bit before that was to get a square of chocolate...

5am pee break, plugged things back in and checked weather and flood info. don't know if i'll be able to get back to sleep but gonna try.

whew! looks like we get a break, no rains for a bit so things can soak in. the field across the road is flooded so that's a good indicator of how saturated the area is for us... i'm sure the south field is also somewhat flooded and the River Nile (a long drainage channel along the edge) is flowing.

It looks from the images on television news that the very southern part of Michigan is being hit hard by the storms. I hope that it is a bit farther afield than the south field in your neighborhood.

@Carol Dee 's neck of the woods seems to be in an especially bad location for what is expected today. That also looks to be true in some other places in the Midwest.
