Raccoon invasion

Someone on BYC posted they hang the raccoon from a tree branch. Flies cover the body laying eggs, maggots start crawling around and fall to the ground. All the chickens hangout waiting for maggots to drop, free protein. Kind of gross but body not wasted.

We do something similar, but this is to feed the fish. We have a stake out in the middle of the pond, with a screen platform on it. We put the carcasses on the screen, flies come and lay eggs, maggots hatch and fall into the water where they are eaten by fish. We call this the "viking burial." (You know how they sent the body out in a burning boat? Kind of like that.) We threw the first rabid raccoon that we found here there, we even had a nickname for him - "Roady the rabid raccoon."

...ahh, good memories! :rolleyes:
