Early Garden Starts

These photos were taken this afternoon.
All these little fellows were started a week ago in used potting soil.
I'm using used containers from store bought plants and used styro coffee cups.
I water from bottom only and kept covered with plastic until they popped through soil, once they were up I proped the plastic cover open at one end to allow air circulation.
When they were about an inch or so I removed the cover and put them under the lights, just as close as I could get them.
As they develope I'll move them down from the lights and when it's warm enough out into the greenhouse.
Some will find their home in the garden, some in 5 gallon buckets on the back deck, and many will be sold at farmers markets.

You better have every square inch of protection for those babies accounted for and soon! I get in so much trouble with behavior like that.

So far, Brandywine,Yellow Pear, Delicious, Lg Red Cherry, Garden Leader Monster, Beef Steak, Rutgers, San Marzano and Hillbilly.
My Parsley, Dill, Cilantro and Cayenne Peppers have also germaniated.
There are still some more tomatoes to sprout, lots more peppers and a bunch of strawberries.

Wow, I'm afraid to plant tomato seeds too early. I run out of room before it gets warm enough to plant them outside. Of course, I guess I could invest in more lights.......
But I'm going to try to grow peppers from seed this year, too, so I need to save some room for them, too.
And, I have a huge monstera and a pineapple plant taking up valuable room. I may have to restructure my growing area, just to make room for these two stupid plants.

They look too close together. I would carefully thin them. Perhaps put a gentle fan on them to strengthen them.

Those big room hogging plants can be put in from of a window to save room for your seedlings. Especially the monstera-I don't think it needs much light.

They are too close together!!
There are fans for them also!!!
When they develop a couple of true leaves I seperate them into individual pots to continue their journey towards maturity.
What I have, so far, not counting the herbs and peppers, will probably be upwards of 150 tomato plants.
There are probably that many more tomato plants and just as many pepper plants that have not broke ground yet.

Yes, I will probably put them on a low table in front of the patio door--northern exposure, so no direct sun, but it will keep them alive. They are just kind of in the way there.
