What about the flavor? I am wondering if it is any easier than the white cauliflower. Or do you always have luck with cauliflower? I remember complaining last season about not being able to get any cauliflower to head up though I was once able to. Apparently it is a problem for many. I found seed this year from Johnny's that is recommended specifically for the Northeast called Fremont. Time will tell!

@catjac1975 cauliflower doesn't have a lot of flavor to me. White or purple. I bought the white plants once and they were a bust. When I saw the purple in Baker Creek catalog, it appealed to the "weird stuff" in me and I had to have some. I wish I had room to plant the whole packet, but I don't. I like to separate out the florets of the purple cauliflower and the broccoli. I grate carrots, chop pecans, toss in some raisins and stir in a couple of glops of Miracle Whip. Yummy salad!

Maybe it's our growing season. I have found for cole crops if I plant in the fall, they grow slowly, but they will grow and make. If I plant in spring, they usually bolt before they make. It gets too hot.

Harvested from the greenhouse, Today:

The colander and bowl are sitting on the Kitazawa catalog so that I can reference it right now!

This is Choy Sum and that means . . . . Leaf Flower vegetable. Well, since I didn't wait for it to form a flower I guess it is Choy .

If it was harvested to be eaten as Stem Leaf Flower, it would be Yu Choy Sum .

Do pea shoots grown under lights count?!? That's about the closest fresh picked green bit I can manage in the frozen tundra. They are a tasty treat though. I have some lettuce and mustard greens growing inside too but too small to harvest any yet. I can't even get to the hoop house.
