Craigslist and Other Bargains

your right we have many pieces in our home that are older than us by a long shot
others quite unique and we enjoy them all

the only time it matters when it comes to painting an old piece is when it comes time to re-sell it. i have no issues repainting old furniture to make it look bright.

i have a vintage porcelain top table that my mom gave to me last year. i don't like the color of the wood base & chairs are also the same color-brown. i want to paint them but i am hesitant since this belonged to my great grandmother & my mother would have a fit if she saw it.

So it sits in hiding -- unused and unloved? Perhaps the color is why mom gave it to you rather than keep it herself?

Now you decide. Do you want to use it or sell it? If you want to use it, enjoy it, make it something that will fit with the other things you love and use.

When it comes to antiques ... painting them instead of restoring them to the original , makes them LOOSE VALUE . :old

So do we just furnish our homes with resale value in mind? Or do we make our homes pleasing comfortable places we enjoy being in?

@Chickie'sMomaInNH I know you don't want conflict with your mom, but if she gave the set to you, it's yours. If she only lent it to you it's still hers. I think when we give things to people we should release them, and whatever happens after that doesn't concern us anymore.
I say make the set something you will us and enjoy, whatever that takes.
