I'm not sure just how to get her to you and now she has her babies to care for. Hilda's one of my oldest girls (5 or 6?) and has slowed down her egg laying, but show her a clutch to cover and she's MIA for the next 21 days. Then she is the best protecter and teacher of her little ones.

Did you know you can mail birds. I used to buy pigeons all over the country ( I only wanted solid white with black wings). You do have to buy a special box.

Yep...and it costs around $75 or more. I received a full grown rooster through the mail, overnighted. When I arrived at the PO to pick him up I could hear him crowing in the back. I'm sure that went over like a lead balloon! 
Just put two halves of an apple in the box for moisture and eats and send her on her way. My rooster arrived in great shape, though a little tired from being confined to such a small space and the strangeness of it all.

I can buy a lot of Australorp chicks for $75, but they wouldn't be Hilda. Actually, Australorps are on my list as my next batch of chicks to get.
I really hate those mean Delawares I got.

Rumor has it that the two youngest grands and I will be traveling -- into Texas during Christmas break. It's a promise I made to them if something happened to Grandpa.
They have complained about being "culturally deprived" and as grandma, I feel it my duty to correct that.
Perhaps Hilda would enjoy a bit of traveling with us? Of course, we know Texas cities are within easy to reach from every corner of the state?
