Hi all! I am sitting up here safe in Idaho, burning to a crisp, and watching Harvey approach Texas on the TV. We get storms up here but not the likes of a hurricane. It has always made me feel bad for the folk who have to deal with the aftermath of any major storm but now I KNOW folk, have friends here at TEG, that are in the path of Harvey.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all and may all your family, friends and farms be safe.

I spent over three decades in the South Louisiana area and went through many hurricanes, including Katrina. Some of your storms are worse than a minor hurricane. The forecasters always make it sound like a true disaster is coming, even for a minor hurricane, but this one looks like one that will be remembered for decades. It's not the wind speed so much, it's the floods that are coming. It is supposed to just sit there and churn. That means it will push tremendous amounts of water onshore, causing floods. A lot of people will be homeless after this. These things spin counterclockwise so those northeast of the storm will get it bad from that. Plus it will drop a lot of rain while it is sitting there. A lot of rain. People inland out of the storm surge are going to flood. Again the northeast quadrant is the worst. A fast moving hurricane isn't nearly as bad as one that just sits there.

So definitely thoughts and prayers.

That's one of the great things about this site, @LocoYokel. We know people from all over the country -- all over the world. They get to feel just like family and we're worried when bad weather or other disasters threaten our TEG friends.

Stay safe, everyone in Harvey's path. Check in so we know you're okay.

I am so glad I don't live in Livingston (75 miles north of Houston) any more. Now we are high and dry and far enough inland that we might get a lot of rain and wind, but nothing what it was so close to the coast. I was there for hurricane Rita and hurricane Ike. Really, I've been there for a lot of hurricanes. We moved to Houston when I was in 3rd grade and a hurricane came in. I remember going outside to play in the eye of the hurricane as it passed over our house.
