For a number of years, I thought that radish and I just couldn't get along.

It wasn't until I wanted to try that veggie as a stir-fry ingredient that I was willing to eat it again. Of course, I weakened and ate some raw. I mean, some of them looked so fresh ... no problems with burping!

What I decided was that I should pay careful attention to them and when one looked too good to resist, I could eat it. It was a matter of the radish being in "its prime" as to whether it would cause me digestive problems.

Now, you are saying that your client has suggested the opposite: that a certain radish, still a Raphanus raphanistrum, has improved her digestion. It isn't a "whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" notion. To me, it's close ... Many vegetables have special healthful benefits for us. Black skin on a radish ... it would have to be in its prime. tenero e delizioso!

No, Alex, I've never tried black radishes, I'm just not that trendy. I don't pay attention to what this weeks super food is that will cure the common cold, prevent cancer, improve your love life, and help you win the lottery. That's a big business, people sell a lot of column inches, get enough viewers to make money on a blog, or if they get lucky can go on a TV talk show to sell books and T-shirts. Specialty growers can get quite high prices if their specific super food catches on.

We all have different bodies so some foods may provide some specific benefits, especially if prepared a certain way. Cooking radishes does mellow them out quite a bit. Even if a certain food helped me with a specific condition there is no guarantee that it would help you. There is no doubt in my mind that certain foods can help certain people if they have certain conditions. The only way to determine that is to try it.

I have a pretty healthy digestive system. My diet consists of a lot of different things in moderation. A lot of the super foods make my diet, there are usually pretty rich in certain nutrients. But exotic trendy varieties don't generally make it. I usually grow Champion radishes, not something trendy. But I do occasionally grow something different just because it is fun, not because it is going to change civilization as I know it. Yeah, I'm in a cynical mood this morning. There is nothing wrong with trying it.

Client swears black radish cured her acid reflex. Any one here use ? https://www.healwithfood.org/health-benefits/black-spanish-radish.php

ok, having some time to read the article.

mostly wishful conjecture and anecdote not really actual science if you pay attention to biology/anatomy and what science keeps finding out (like that most of the conventional wisdom about blood fats only applies to certain people and of course not all of us are the same).

eat some, see if you like them and/or react to stay away from them. eating more veggies is likely a good thing otherwise.

if anyone gets a huge amount of seeds i'd try a few just to see if i liked the sprouts as those are what i tend to like the most from radishes anyways.

forgot to mention there are many other kinds of things to deal with when it comes down to digestion problems. acid reflux can sometimes be helped by reducing liquids during eating, drinking vingar (instead of the opposite which many doctors go where they prescribe antacids), not laying down after meals, not eating late at night, paying attention to many other things like exercise and drinking water in between meals (not tons, but enough)...

so many possibilities there...
