What was that quote about naming things? Something like "Once you give a thing a name, you take possession of it"? or something like that. Or "Once you name a thing, it loses its magic"?

I've stayed outta this.

As soon as FlowerBug said something about a tiny weed with a white flower, I wondered if he meant the same little thing that covers the neighbor's parking area and my garden paths before I ever get there in the spring.

Then, I wondered if it really was just a white species of filaree like I'd long thought. But, that white filaree has different leaves and, I think, doesn't grow north of California! Yeah, I spent some time proving myself wrong .

Thank You, @journey11 ! I can't call it Whitlow Grass. It doesn't look like a grass so I'll never remember that name ... I'm working on remembering "Draba." Yeah, I'm gonna go with that.

;) Steve

I was calling Whitlow grass by name today as I sliced it's little heads off with my Rogue hoe.

i hope you got it before it set seeds! all of ours was getting ready to drop
seeds so i was pulling all the plants i could find and making sure that any
seeds that dropped were also picked up. yes, i'm serious, one seed at a
time. took me about 10hrs to clear that one garden (working around blooming
tulips). Mom had walked through and smushed some of them and the seeds
were already on the ground. nothing fast about it, just very patient and zen
type work or just think about whatever when cleaning it up. i won't have to
do it again until next spring now... :)

it's such a tiny plant and no competition to anything that easily over grows it. if it were just me here i'd leave it alone as it does cover such poor soil easily and protects it from the rains.
