Lots Of Bright Blue Flowers

The other night I ran into nursery right before closing. While heading to check out I spotted a plant that caught my eye. It was the only one and had no label pot was mark perennial. The bright blue color of flowers what I love. I asked at check out what flower was , told everybody went home. A woman on line said her guess is Larkshur I want more of these what is it ? Is it hardy zone 5 ?

i know that's one of the most favorite plants of mine because of that bright blue.

they are marginally survivable here, but i think that is because they do not like their crowns mulched and our winters are sometimes too cold.

those flowers get plenty of seeds so don't deadhead until after you harvest seeds.

that small plant growing in the crushed limestone picture above was transplanted but then it didn't make it. we used to have a lot of them, but they're all gone now and i used up the last of my seeds so we're out until we find it again sometime.

It's Larkspur, which is related to delphiniums. Shorter and hardier than the tall big flowered delphs.

Wow, @flowerbug , that's blue!!! DW loves Delphiniums, we are still trying to collect some different colors.

BTW, isn't larkspur an annual?

i know, it's a beautiful color. as a kid royal blue was my favorite color, when i finally had a room of my own i painted it nearly this shade of blue. everyone thought it was so odd, but i found it very calming/relaxing.

this plant is a perennial, but i wouldn't consider it a very hardy one. plan on savng seeds and having to restart it here or there... i wish i'd kept some more of the seeds from it, but i purged my containers a few years ago and so i didn't keep any.

i really wanted to get it going "in the wild" wandering through the chaos gardens and then have some in the more formal patch, but it doesn't start easily in clay where it gets overgrown.
