Yesterday while the chickens were in the garden, Carson went with me while I fed them. He did great. Curious, but listened when I said No. He has been given a few chicken lessons, this was the best one yet.

He is sporting purple paint from helping grand daughters paint a chicken coop.

Today we took Carson to the vet for his 3rd puppy shots and a rabies shot. He weighed 32 pounds! He gained 11 pounds over the last 3 weeks. Right now he is asleep in my lap. :love

Bay with the number of dogs you have you should vaccinate yourself. The only vaccine that has to be given by vet is rabies all others can be done at home. I order mine from Revival 800 786-4751 they are given anywhere with lose skin, very easy. I pay about $3.00 a vaccine my vet charges $95

@Nyboy his puppy shot, rabies, kennel cough, checking him for hookworms and heartworm pill came to $118. He will go once a month to be weighed for his heartworm pill. When his weight levels off, he will get a shot every 6 months. At 5 or 6 months, we will take him in to be neutered, hence the kennel cough shot. I know I could give him his shots, but at this point he is growing and changing so fast, I want the vet to see him. I have walked out with a $500 or $600 bill for all 4 dogs (the 2 Great Pyrenees plus Polly and Parker) when they got their shot boosters, heartworm, flea and tick pill and rabies. So yeah, it's a kick in the pocket. If I had a litter of pups, I would do their puppy shots myself.

I looked up that Revival site and it looks like a good one.

About booster shots, there is a big movement dogs don't need them every year. I do every 3 to 4 years. Europe only puppies get shots which are good for life. Vets where losing a lot of money when client stopped giving yearly boosters. They needed to make up the money and would tell clients if they wheren't giving booster they should run a blood titer. Over the years I have seen thousand of blood titer and have never seen one dog not protected.

Huge difference in areas. Even between vets. Took dog into one vet for rabies shot. Came out $200 poorer. Switched vets, now, shots, heart worm test, pills (need to check into shot) barely $100.

On his walk-in hour 8-9, he & staff will see 6-10/hour. Register 8-9, May not get in till 11:30 as he has that much business. Slow day is 20.

In the old days, everything but rabies was life time shots.

If you take a dog to be boarded or to day care, here the dog has to be up on all shots, fecal worm check, kennel cough nose spray and God knows what else. I think the kennels help keep the vets in business.
