What is going on?

Weather Service doesn't usually make use of the word, catastrophic.

The storm won't stay in Missouri. Next?

We have been getting night time rain for the past 3 days. Last night there was a very windy T-storm, which kept my 11yo dog, "Pyg" in knots bc she is afraid of thunder. Next 2 nights/early morning has rain expected. The tornado, "catastrophic weather" was in Jefferson City, MO. No deaths reported (yet), but severe damage all hitting at around 11:30PM. SO SCARY when a tornado hits after dark!!! :hide We are lucky bc the worst of it seems to be playing out before the weather reaches us here. Nothing will change until the jet stream changes, and rain is forecast for at least the next 10 days.

Yes, it sounds like lots of damage in Jefferson City, the capitol, but no deaths there. A little further west, close to Joplin, 3 people were killed. Joplin was the town where 158 people were killed by a tornado on the same date in 2011.
We had dopplar detected tornadoes about 5 miles west of us and also about 5 miles east of us that same night.
There are so many more tornadoes now, with the world's weather patterns becoming more extreme. I'm glad we have a basement.

My dog is also terrified of thunder. I dose him with CBD oil before fireworks/thunderstorms/the base practicing. It makes him calm and normal, but not drugged. It might be worth looking into for your dog.

My sister lives in KC MO. We met her and her husband this past Monday down south In Idaho Falls for a memorial service of sorts for mom, dad and my brother. They left MO a day early to try and avoid the severe weather. I hope things calm down for their trip home.

I am from KCMO also, and am keeping a close eye on the weather there. My 93 yr old father lives there, as does the rest of my family.
