Earth pot from a few years ago. Three zuc from Wally World. Broken chair. Weapons of deer deterrent to try to save the plants from being consumed. Golf course home. $13K quote for fencing which is required to be wrought iron. Gonna have to stick with my homegrown arsenal of ways to try to garden for this year.....

Sickly store bought tomatoes. No huge arsenal for deer deterrent. Will get full afternoon west sun which makes the house very very hot. Bunny poop from last winter courtesy of my niece in San Jose.

A nice little hot wire about knee high to an average male will do the trick...no one need even see it if you keep your stakes low profile. Will keep out deer better than any other fence I know.

Charger runs about $30, wire, insulators and stakes another $30 or so, depending on how much you need.

Here's one reason: I believe the property owner is gonna push for me to take over yet another 40' x ?. It will be watered yet grow only weeds if I don't. I really dislike having those weeds right there. I've already told DW that birdseed sunflowers followed by oats might be my choice if I was to suppress weeds while readying that ground for 2020. If not weed control and soil building - what else? Heck's Fire! I've nearly enough ground to grow livestock feed ...

Why not just sow it to grass and keep it mowed?

I planted squash, cucumbers, more pole beans, more Swiss chard, more lettuce and a little bit of radishes, did some weeding. I have a few little peppers I need to bring in. Some of the peppers had flowers when I planted them. Also, some bok choy is about ready to eat. I did not plant much because I have never really had much luck. I am going to try to start some later in the year and have ready to plant for fall. I will just have to watch the weather and see if it works out.

Why not just sow it to grass and keep it mowed?

It's in the middle of the tilled land.

So, there are annual plantings on all 4 sides of that ground. On 2 sides is my garden so it isn't as tho I have far to go but I have to not neglect it or -- weeds!

One thing you could try if you have a large lawn or access to lawn clippings is to put a two inch layer of fresh clippings down, water it if its dry, step down on it lightly all over. The heat from the fresh clippings burns everything underneath.
At one point I was a lawn mowing contractor so I had a lot of this stuff an used it at home rather than take it to the dump.
i would do this twice and with the third layer, I'd leave it fluffy. By that stage, it was usualy okay to plant straight into.

The only thing it didnt burn off was the runner type weeds or deep rooted ones like Dock. With Dock, I just cut the leaves off and use them as much. eventually, they get weak and just die. Meanwhile, I get to use nutrient rich leaves to feed things I want.
