Welllll....I am here in CO on vacation. Weather in Idaho Springs
Beautiful!

The origin of the name "Idaho" is somewhat obscure. Just a few parts of the story: The name was used by European Americans in Colorado before it was used in this eastern part of the Oregon Territory.

The first use of the name here was the naming of a riverboat on the Columbia/Snake, "The Idaho."

Idaho County, larger than several east coast states, was named for the riverboat.

CO is having a very nice snow pack year, Lake Powell is already up over 30ft and hopefully will get another 20 more.

Today (still in CO), we went trout fishing. Here was the temperature at 10:00AM, obviously the rental car was on another time zone.
KP on Chicago Creek #1 (9).JPG

Being the VERY inexperienced fisherman that I AM, first throw and the whole pole went into the pond! They were very slow, being a Monday, so the help helped me "fish" it out, using another pole and line. We had to slowly reel it in bc it was long and getting tangled. I had spotted a trout that had pulled under the float and was fighting it. When we got it out of the water, I had a 12 incher! Lots of ways to skin a cat OR catch a trout.
I spent 90 minutes trying to catch trout #6. We abandoned the fish eggs in lieu of worms, and by that time DH and I were the only customers, so the help hooked the helpless worm on tight. It was occassaionally thundering AND raining--somebody told me that it's easier to catch fish when it rains--HA!!! I moved to a "better" part of the pond, where I saw many trout had been swimming and jumping, and Finally caught the last fish, a 14 inch trout. The workers helped me to net him.

Here was our catch for the day.

Yay!

Quite the good luck on catching the same fish on two lines, two rods ;).

It reminded me of the time I was fishing for salmon on the banks of the Klamath. The day was turning warm, unusual in itself there on the NorCal coast. I took my jacket off, stepped up to the shoreline again, and prepared to make my cast ... Snagged my jacket and threw it in the river!

Last full day in Colorado. We drove over the Virginia Canon road, the Original Way to get there, sometimes called the "Oh My God Road" bc of the dropoffs, and it is mostly graded, not pavement. (I think the paved road to Mt. Evans is a LOT scarier.) It was rainy and foggy, in the 50's today...

We tried to keep the top down on the convertible, but too much rain! There are ruins on the way into town.

The town went full throttle Casinos some 10 years ago. They still make money, I Guess, but during the week it is a ghost town, used to be full of tourist shops. The Teller House is original, as well as the Opera House (sorry no good pictures of That), and there is a summer opera season here.

We are leaving Georgetown, CO and "The Cricket", the name of the 1920's era cabin we rented for the past week. 52 degrees at 9AM, but I am SURE that it was colder 2 hours ago when I shut the windows!
Here are a few garderner's interests. I have tried to grow CO columbine, like this one, with NO success.

I am pretty sure that this is a Crabapple.

The area has had several years of drought. Last year was an extreme drought. 2019 has been very wet. I was successful zooming in with my NIKON pocket camera. This little sapling has about 4 inches of trunk underwater. It must have been a drought survivor. The forests look like polka dotted dead trees, what with a beetle investation a decade ago and all of the drought years. (No good photo, just note the dead pines.)
