Love the natural looking handrails. Does cork board hold up well to traffic? Since you painted it, I'm assuming it will not be covered with carpet or something?

The cork boards are called tiles and are 100% cork, 4mm (5/32 inch) thick and are 300x600mm, about a foot by 2 foot. They are quite flexible and easy to cut to size. My wive glued the tiles a day before and we gluad the floor on the day, hammering the tiles into place. I got them straight up to the walls so we don't need plinths, I am very happy with that!
For heavy traffic they said you should apply 3 coats of paint, or rather varnish / lac. Since it's in our bedroooms we applied only 2, also because every coating of varnish makes it darker. We'd rather didn't varnish at all, because we like the natural colour of cork better.

I like the idea that wish creates in my mind, @flowerbug .
A "home" settles within a "house." Since I was a child, the difference between just a house and a home has been apparent to me. Enclosed space, I began to think of it. In college, even while married, I had roommates. An interior designer and an architect - we got along really well for years in and out of school. Appreciate how they think about enclosed space.

Cork is sustainable in the way that it's a natural material and that it regrows after harvest without cutting down the tree. I don't know how sustainable the glue and other products used to make it into a finished product are. Thank you for sharing the article!
The gardens are pretty much neglected, the first potatoe harvest was negligible, the pods of the peas that I planted for seed were eaten by something, I lost a few bean plants in the heatwave and the old garden is completely overgrown.
Luckily the tomatoes are fine, just behind compared to last year. The New Yorkers, Japanese black trifele and Larissa's Russian Beauties that I got from @ninnymary are all delicious!
The Peachtree has a bumper crop this year despite my very late trimmings in spring. Mom says the tree never had a big crop as this year.
Our house is coming along, we are very tired of living in a construction site, although the bedrooms are nearly finished, just waiting for the new wooden frames and doors that are scheduled for September. Then we need to do something about the bathroom. We just placed the kitchen, new floor heating, wood flooring and are now working on the living room walls, gluing lime boards that are going to be lime plastered in September or October.
