$7+ tax is a bargain. i don't usually shop much but we were out today so this became Mom's Christmas present (along with a few boxes of her favorite chocolates :) ).

check your local store to make sure it has them in stock before making a special trip, but ours has about a dozen of them left.

saw it as we were walking out and since we sometimes are both out working in the gardens at the same time so having an extra one (with a thinner handle that makes it easier for Mom to use). so this was a bargain i could not pass up.

note it says free shipping but that isn't true as this item is a pickup in store item only and i don't know how long they'll be on sale.

10yr warranty

You gotta check. We used to have twin cities, Champaign-Urbana, NOW we have Triple cities, SAVOY-Champaign-Urbana, and each one has it's own WM. I found a nifty Better Homes& Gardens hanging solar lantern, went back and cleaned them out for gifts. Online says out of stock, but there they were, on clearance.
Something Else to look for on clearance for a good price, Preen and landscape fabric.

We've had those hoes in the past....they don't work so well in our hard clay soils, nor do they work on a no till situation. Not a fan.

different strokes for different folks, we have clay with just a little sand as our base/subsoil and they work fine here. if i'm working one of the edges of a garden when it hasn't rained for a while i may not even get the hoe down into the soil at all. i just use it to skim and slice the weeds off and it works as it should. in more improved soils that have some tilt/crumble and amendments added it also works well for me.

i do low till, but most of the gardens here do not have surface mulches much at all due to Mom's desires to have all garden debris hidden away, thrown away or put on the weed piles. things which i hate to do so i bury it in the garden where grown most of the time. because i am not disturbing the whole garden much i call my methods low till. when i bury stuff i put it down far enough that the hoe doesn't usually touch what i've buried.

for people using deep mulches on the surface this hoe isn't going to work that well, but if you are using deep mulch there shouldn't be that many weeds to hoe anyways. if a garden gets out of hand with weeds that also has a lot of mulch i would just surface skim it and turn the top layer of weeds and mulch under and that would leave me with a fresh surface to use.

for people using wood chips as a top garden mulch this hoe would also not be the best, but after the wood chips are mostly broken down it is fine. i've also used it to stir the top of the layers of wood chips we have around to discourage the maple seedlings and poplars from getting very far along to where i'd have to pull them by hand.

for us these hoes save a lot of time so at $7-8 if it saves an hour it has already paid for itself IMO.
