If you tie your tarps like you do with a canvas tent, your grommets shouldn't tear. Check out my post with the tents we are airing out. We haven't ever ripped a grommet.

Use a rope with 2 holes drilled in the end for the end to be knotted and the other threaded through. You can thread the rope through the grommet and stake out your tarp. As you can see by the tent Next to the Sibley (looks like a teepee) you can tighten up the ropes when necessary.

@ducks4you thanks for that tip. It made me reconsider the grommet design offered on the tarps I see for sale. The holes work for flat packages, but I bet a quick clamp system like you have shown with the tent guy ropes that is adjustable is easier to deal with.

I was posting about the storm yesterday, but forgot that I already mentioned it in another thread - oops.

Incredibly powerful, for such a small storm. For all that violence, though, very little rain. We were already able to work in the garden today.

Now the forecast today has been revised, to a low of 41 F. overnight. :epLows will be in the 40's F. for several days, but at least it will be dry... so no complaints. Further north, though, they might get some frost - pretty late in the year for that.

it took out the power around our region for a lot of people. we were spared that but a lot of people around us have been waiting for a day or two to get power restored.

At sunrise this morning (the earliest of the year at 4:51am DST), the temperature in my garden was 59°f.

After 12 hours of daylight, the temperature in my garden was 49°.

Do you think anything grew out there, today?

Steve, also seeing 1/3rd of an inch of rainfall thru the window ;)
