This is happening all over...literally...I'm hearing of this from all corners of the land. All people, tested or not, having signed up for the testing, are being told they are positive.

Yet, people believe the numbers anyway...there are none so blind as those who refuse to see.

if someone takes an isolated incident and reports it, and that encourages others to not cooperate with trying to keep the number of cases down then they are in effect encouraging the deaths of others.

it costs so little to cooperate but people would rather be selfish.

i wish you well, but i think you and others like you are being foolish. quips and quotes won't protect anyone from death due to this virus.

those who cannot see? that would be those who are ignoring the deaths of thousands of people a day in areas where the citizens decided to do selfish things. alas, there's no way to only make the selfish pay the price for their foolishness.

If masks are so effective , why have deaths attributed to Covid went UP since it is now illegal to not wear one? From previous studies, we know wearing masks will increase other respiratory problems.

It's not illegal to not wear one everywhere. Many jurisdictions don't have those rules. Most places those rules aren't enforced, it's more of a strong recommendation. Plenty of people ignore it anyway.

There is also the thing called a calendar. Death or hospitalization is not immediate when someone catches it. Those follow behind. The current death rates are due to what happened a month or so ago.

There are very few places trying to enforce the mask requirement with fines or imprisonment. I have not studied the locations where it is, but I suspect it's more of a desperation measure where hospitals are so full they have to ship patients to other areas that till have health care available. That's happening here. Patients are being shipped here to the New Orleans area from other parts of the state because we still have treatment available. Other places are full. The mayor here has been stricter on reopening than the state in general.

Masks and social distancing will not eliminate this virus. That's a dream, not reality. If used by enough people masks and social distancing will help keep the numbers under control so we can keep up with medical treatment. It would enable more businesses to open back up. it would help the economy. But people won't wear them or social distance so the numbers keep climbing.

I have some different opinions. I consider this virus the enemy that is attacking my country. It has killed tens of thousands of American citizens. It's put so many in hospitals that in some places they have to ship sick people to other areas, they've just run out of the ability to provide medical care in certain places. It has hit our economy really hard. A lot of people have lost their jobs. That's not a fantasy, that's reality. One of my sons is one of them. It has shut down a lot of businesses, some forever. The virus is putting a lot of pressure on our education system. Those kids are the future of our country, I think their education is important for us to be a strong country. If this isn't an attack on my country I don't know what would be.

The only weapon I have to fight it is a mask and social distancing. That has worked in some places, here for example. The mayor of New Orleans and some other local cities and such clamped down pretty hard when we became a national hot spot. We are now the lowest region in Louisiana. It's the other areas of the state that are having the severe problems. Masks and social distancing has not and will not eliminate the virus. They can help reduce the suffering it causes.

I know I'm not going to change anyone's mind about this. I'm not that naive. People are going to believe what they want to believe. I can't control anyone else, I can only control what I do. From my perspective, I'm not gong to aid and abet an enemy attacking my country.

A month ago, Yakima County Washington had one of the highest COVID-19 rates in the US. It's not the most prosperous area nor, all that rural. There are several large meat packing plants. Yeah, those.

Today, it is one of the few counties in WA where the number of daily cases is decreasing. What changed? One thing, their government reports that they went from 65% to 95% of people wearing masks.

Yes. If you aren't willing to accept information from county, state, national health agencies, it won't make much difference if you can read this screenshot. If you don't recognize the efforts and agency reporting internationally, there is little reason to look beyond borders.

A reminder: We're inclined to close discussions that are of a political nature because they tent to go south VERY quickly.

I'd like to see our community do what's required to keep this thread open, but that will take a concerted and deliberate effort by everyone.

This includes being friendly and respectful (especially in public posts) to other members, even when you disagree.

@digitS' Don't disagree that cases are going down. That is to be expected. After you hit the peak, it will decline. As more people get the antibodies, the total number of positives cases will go up and number per day should go down. What is interesting is since masks have been mandated, cases have spiked. Everything is how someone wants to view numbers.

Don't worry Nifty. We may be standing on opposite sides of the fence, throwing rocks, but our aim is bad and we don't hit anybody.

I can't think of anyone living close to me that even mention this subject for whatever reasons they my have. At least here I can read other people's views on the matter.
My reason for not speaking about covid is I do not know enough on the subject so learning a little from here and will eventually form my own conclusion.

I don't take sides on arguments but I do enjoy a debate. As for the rest of any opinion I may have hold about chatting in here @baymule has said it for me .

We're gagged to much on many subjects @Nifty please don't stop this discussion in here. :)
