What are You Eating from the Garden?

Edamame.

DW set a bowl on the table before dinner and I snacked on them with appreciation . They are so flavorful.

I wish that this garden would do a better job growing them. I guess that they really don't like rocky soi. Oh welll. I have made this lament before. "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride."

Portuguese kale, carrots, onions, garlic, beef, and hot peppers in bean soup. I finished the Italian sausage a couple of days ago in pasta sauce or I might have called it Portuguese kale soup. Unfortunately, the beans were not from the garden. We just took the very first dry Rattlesnake beans out of their pods, yesterday.

The Portuguese kale is so mild that one might have thought it was spinach ... except, I didn't plant any spinach this year. Harvesting regularly - no old leaves

It feels like a fall day with a real windstorm keeping us indoors. There are fires and duststorms to the west, some fairly close. Fortunately, none are upwind to our house.

The soybeans don't grow well in the rocks of the big veggie garden but there have been a couple of small harvests this year. I really enjoy the flavor, which surprised me at first .

Soya additives in our food here puts me off soya.

Are you concerned about genetically modified organisms (GMO) with the soya products?

You should be able to find several garden varieties that are non-GMO. I did . And, I was able to trial 4 different varieties of early types (I think it was) before settling on the best. Then, I moved my gardening off that sandy ground and have been tormenting my chosen variety with gravel for 3 seasons - with some time off so that the soya and I could pout .

Tomatoes and HUGE red sweet peppers! FINALLY, I got to harvest them fully ripe, instead of green, with a promise of blush. Ate stuffed peppers last night. DD's said that they could taste how fresh they were.

Rhubarb Pie

Had some from the plants during spring, of course. Mid-summer, yes. Leaves and stems were back and nice and tender.

@ninnymary i just finished the very last melon. it was sitting on top of the pile of old vines for the past few weeks. i wasn't even sure it was going to be edible but i saw it this afternoon, that it had changed colors and brought it in to investigate. of the past five melons this one was the best, but in comparison to the rest at peak flavor it was about half as good as it could have been. still i am not one to complain as it was good eating.
