2026 Little Easy Bean Network – Plant A Garden, Water Your Soul, Join Our Family

@heirloomgal and @Decoy1 thank you for the replies, details and pictures.

yes, i have some Purple Dove outcrosses that look exactly like what i see there. :) those white eyes without the yellowish ring around them that get discolored with age is very nice and something i'm happy to have also seeds that are without. i've had those for several years (temporary names for them i used were Flair and Topmark) and for me i suspected a cross with Lavender that has the similar white eye or perhaps even Venda (or both as i do have more than one variation going on here).

the only other thing i can think of is that i don't know the source of your Purple Dove seeds. if it was Russ or someone else i'd sent seeds to...? anyways, it is all interesting to me. :)

this is a pic from 2023 harvest:

It's actually kind of amazing how those seeds look just like @Decoy1 's seeds. Twins. I can only guess that maybe Purple Dove genes are rather dominant.

Russ's 2025 Big Bean Show Day 31

Iroquois Cornbread - Pole Dry. I thought this bean was a pole bean but I saw only one plant try to climb one of my poles this past summer. Most of the plants acted like a bush bush bean. Beautiful large kidney shaped red craanberry bean. Said to be native American.

John Wynn Greasy - Pole Greasy. This bean is terrifically produtive. Given to me by a Lily, Kentucky grower at the 2024 Sustainable Mountain Agriculture seed swap in Berea, Kentucky. This bean was the second most productive bean I had in 2025. It lost out to the number one bean by less than a half ounce, .40 of an ounce (11 g) to be exact.

Junin - Bush Dry. Like a slightly smaller light red Kidney. I acquired this bean from a grower in Germany in March of 2013 and grew it for the first time that year. The plants in 2013 grew to 24 inches tall (60 cm). This past summer was the best crop of this bean I have had since. It grew quite well in the same plot where other beans failed. 2025's plants grew a little over half as tall as the 2013's did. Supposedly this beans genetic heritage traces to the Andean gene pool to the area around Junin, Peru.

Karachaganak Bush - Bush Dry. This bean is a stable segregation of the Semi Runner Karachaganak. Discovered by Artur Kobylecki of Kielce, Poland I believe in 2021. The bean did not produce a lot of seed this past summer but grew better than many others that weren't happy with the soil or weather in a very hot and dry month of June 2025.

Most of the little Greasy beans are really productive. Good little Lee County, Va bean from John Woodworth

Good to see Karachaganak Bush stable. I found Karachaganak in the Will Bonsall beans I got from you but it was originally a semi runner. I got a bush version also but I don't think that bush came form my bush. I could not get it stabilized but it was such a pretty bean that several others tried growing it. I'm extremely pleased someone was able to stabilize it and proud they kept the name. When someone stabilizes a bean I think they have the right to name it themselves.
