I tried to find Zlatak on the internet and found it described as common bean, not lima.
There is a Zlatek variety on the Bohnen-Atlas website, maybe it's the same.

The Bis is a wax bean. I didn't try it, I didn't have enough pods.

I figure I can send some back to @Bluejay77 , and then he can include them in your "official" import box next year?

That way hopefully they won't go missing in customs before they get to you. Since they're cursed. ;D

Let me check how many I have left, and then I'll split them between us. I still want to try again next year; now it's a challenge haha.

If you ever shipped beans to Belgium, I can say that I have some from you. Indirectly. The Bill Wheatly Fall that I showed is one of them. Grape, Cana and Red Speckled Fall await their turn to sow.

Hello! I'll be joining you this season in growing out beans for Russell. I will be growing Walcherse Bruine Kogel, Marfax, and Swedish Brown. Bit of an obsession with brown beans lately. 😄

@Bluejay77 I have taken your advice and bought a bunch of 1x2 furring strips from Home depot this weekend for growing the network pole beans. I vaguely remember the post from months ago, but i cant seem to find it and i apologize for asking again. Did you screw in 2 screws per pole 2/3 the way up the poles? I cannot remember, also do you plant 4 beans around each strip? Thanks in advance!

I add photos of the wax beans I wrote about. Goliat and Tytan are old Polish varieties that have not been on sale for a long time. I got the seeds in 2020 from the Polish gene bank.
Bis can still be bought, but it is being replaced by new varieties of the filet type. I think it will disappear from stores soon.

Tytan - pole bean, flat, very long and wide pods. Khaki color seeds with lines and spots in a darker shade of the same color.

Goliat - pole bean, flat and wide pods, but half the length of Tytan. Light grey seeds with a golden ring around the eye.

Bis - bush bean, the pods are also flat and wide, about 15 cm long. Light grey seeds with a dark blue stain around the eye.

I will be growing all these beans again this year. Last year, they grew in a place damaged by moles, and I didn't harvest too many good quality seeds.

@Artorius those Bis beans sure are pretty, much more so than I had imagined they'd be. I know Heritage Harvest Seeds has sold those for the last couple years and I never considered getting them as I had so many wax beans already. But after seeing yours I think the next time I order there I might get some.They look a little like a chubby version of your Atlas bean seeds. Schwarze Witwe is very pretty too. It almost looks a little bluish.

Welcome @meadow ! As a bean lover, you'll have fun here with us. I went through a brown bean phase too at one point, and I grew out every variety I could find; Swedish Brown, Dutch Brown I recall. I see out there a Scottish Brown too, and another one called Lumberjack.

Oh dear, those are a couple I hadn't noticed (Scottish Brown and Lumberjack), lol!

Did you come to any conclusions about brown beans?

I watched a video done by a woman that sells seeds in British Columbia -- she was sitting with a bowl full of mixed bean seeds, and would pick out one and talk about its attributes. She pulled up Beka Brown and enthusiastically said that it made the BEST baked beans she'd ever eaten, and that Norwegian Brown was very similar (but nuttier). Sadly she doesn't ship to the US. Russ had Beka Brown though, and SSE had Norwegian Brown...

I feel like I need to try all of them to see how they differ and which one I like best. 😎

Swedish Brown grew well for me when i gave them a try out in 2018.

i really enjoy the flavors and textures of so many of the beans i grow that it is hard for me to pick favorites but Mom has her favorites so i let her pick which of the bulk beans i grow and then i fill in the project beans where i can find room for them.

my current list of bulk beans that i grow every year is: Fordhook Lima, Huey, Purple Dove, Red Ryder, Yellow Eye and some type of wax bean (usually Top Notch and another variety to see if it will do better).

Swedish Brown grew well for me when i gave them a try out in 2018.

Perhaps these are from your 2018 grow out! The packet is marked 2018.

It was your recommendation of Molasses Face that got me started acquiring various Yellow Eyes with a broad ring of color. The color is so warm and appealing! Those will probably wait for next year though, as I've not yet figured out 'who is going where' in the garden(s).

Purple Dove is your own creation, isn't it? How is it doing? I don't recognize Huey and Red Ryder.
