This years garden will be much smaller than last years. The annual vegetable patch should only be about 30x25 compared to last year which was something like 50x200.
This is for two reasons #1 I will have less time this spring. Work and school will likely take up a lot more time than last spring/summer. #2 Weed Control. Normally weed control is pretty easy here but last year was a monsoon. Almost every week it was too muddy to cultivate three days out of seven normally it’s not nearly that rainy here but needless to say it caused problems and I’m not risking that again this year. A smaller garden is also a good defense against drought should it happen this summer.
This is the current basic plan for this years garden.

And these are the varieties I have picked out so far. The birdhouse gourds will be going on the fence line closer to the house.

The first signs of spring are beginning here. Some of the new daffodils are budding and what I thought were daffodils but I now think are snow drops are just about to bloom. Small wildflowers have been blooming since December and the first dandelions are in bloom. I also have idiotic hormonal roosters that are starting to fight again now that the days are getting longer. And we have the 2nd snowfall of the year forecast for Sunday.

I’m a little worried about them though since we are supposed to have a strong cold front towards the end of next week. I know that the foliage won’t be damaged by cold but I’m not sure about the flowers. Anyone know around what temp kills daffodil blooms?

do you have more that are likely to come out? the ones already blooming might mostly be done by then. or it might be the case that they won't get cold enough, you can always cover them to protect them. some varieties are more cold tolerant than others.

the day before the cold arrives cut a few to bring inside to enjoy if you're not allergic to them. some are scented.

me, i just hope the weather changes - there's way too many here to rescue.

Yes, I can imagine some of those in her hat ...

For those too young to know for whom ArtichokeLover named her lovely flowers LINK

Interesting that there was a post about a floating horseshoe in another thread and Minnie Pearl here today. When I was in fifth grade my parents took us to the Grand Ole Opry. My brother who was in first grade then and I were talking about it this morning. He said he slept through most of it but one of the few things he remembered was Minnie Pearl.

I told him I remembered one of her jokes. Her brother, Junior, went into a blacksmith shop and picked up a horseshoe, then immediately dropped it. The blacksmith said, "Hot ain't it?" Junior replied "Nope, it don't take me long to look at a horseshoe".

My brother said he'd heard that joke before but until today he didn't know where.

We get warm winters and daffodils tend to come up and sometimes bloom. They are REALLY tough! If they bloom and it freezes, they WILL survive. :hugs
