I was surprised to hear on "Growing a Greener World" that chemical fertilizers contain salt.
I am not bashing the large scale use of them bc I understand that chemical fertilizers sustain 2 billion people through agriculture.
Just thought I'd research the subject.
Solutions to our problems are laughable, like the comment here AND same solution on a garden program, using salt to kill slugs.
There are two ways to kill slugs:
1) surround with copper which produces a small electric shock
OR
2) bury an open cheap can of beer
I have done #2 with great success, when I had a 1/4 acre shaded lot.
#1 would work well until you neighbor sees the current price of copper and steals it.
Copper, an interesting gardening ingredient! DH wanted to experiment with 'Electro-Culture' so wrapped some copper wire around a bamboo skewer and stuck it in a couple pots. I laughed at first because that seemed a weee bit out there as a gardening *amendment*. But I have to say the health and vigor of those plants did jump considerably compared to the others. There may really be something to it.

copper is a trace nutrient for some plants but at higher amounts becomes toxic.

if you are near the ocean you want to make sure that any runoff from gardens treated with copper compounds ends up in some kind of treatment because copper is very toxic to many marine organisms (especially reef critters including corals).

I found MORE asparagus. I think that DD overharvested. I need to plant the asparagus seeds that I saved and resurrect her bed.

Today, I am sucking up caffeine to avoid taking another benedryl.
Yesterday, I got 1/3 jobs done, had to take a pill, HAD to lay down for a nap for an hour.
The only other job I got done was to drive the tow wagon around the (1 acre) house and pick up all of the piles of sticks and recently downed limbs and burn them.
They burnt Real good!

BAHHH!!!
I think the clearance peach trees needed to be planted immediately bc they had both leafed out.
I left them water for a few days. I potted them up in Miracle Gro potting soil meant for the garden and have kept them watered.
One may have already bit the dust. The other has a couple of leaves that are growing...slowly.
Not used to bareroot trees!!!
I guess if I can keep one alive and nurse it for awhile it will be worth it.
I wonder if the clearance bareroot trees were leafing out, so there wasn't much use of the nursery to keep them?

@ducks4you

Remember our chat on my climbing rose?
You told me roses "would rather be dead than in a pot".

As I said, this rose couldn't be planted by my door as I would have very much liked :(

So I kept thinking 🤔 about this dilemma and came up with a solution. It is now planted by my fence so it can grow too it's hearts content and right beside it is peppermint that has only just been planted and chocolate mint that was planted last year

I have found, buying nursery trees, bare root or potted, it’s a crapshoot. Maybe they live, maybe they don’t.
Very true, I've found the same but for once I have a feeling that this rose is going to be okay. I fed it alo vera yesterday and some organic feed. I heard tomato feed is good as well but I'm waiting to see what you guys suggest.
🤔 You never know maybe after almost 3 years of being here, I may become a little bit of a gardener after all :thumbsup
