Today in 1935 the game Monopoly goes on sale for the first time.
I remember playing that game a lot. I think the game Catan has kinda taken Monopoly's place in the last several years.

there are many versions of Monopoly now. i've spent many hours playing it as a kid but can't recall the last time i played. maybe about 20yrs ago.

since i liked model railroads and trains there was (perhaps still is - i've not looked into it lately) a game called Railroad Tycoon that got me hooked for some time as it ran on my notebook PC from the mid-90s. i got an upgraded version to play on a better PC later but by that time i was fed up with MS anything and abandoned it for several Linux versions and that would take me eventually to Simutrans but i don't play that one or others these days.

there's a lot of other games i've played and continue to play, but this is getting to be long and late so i'll stop here and get off this particular train ride... :)

I used to really enjoy playing monopoly with my father and friends. I never got into chess only drafts sadly.

Draughts (checkers), @Marie2020 ?

February 8 is Laugh and Get Rich Day. "A day for enriching your life with happiness." Apparently inspired by the 1931 motion picture comedy by that name about a struggling family during the Great Depression. The story line is that they finally gain some security by having invested in the invention of the tire valve. Ppssssss! :D

i've always liked complicated games or ones that involved building like Lincoln Logs, Legos, Erector Sets, and a lot of impromptu use of random tile pieces from the family flooring business, but as a game nothing topped Mouse Trap for me even if the version we had was missing parts so i didn't get a chance to see it run until many years later when someone had a full game and so i made sure to set it up and see it run. :)

the most complicated game i play these days is the best as i've been doing it for 35 years but had been studying up on it since i was 12yrs old, that is the stock market and investing and managing finances. i like it more than poker, bridge (both which i enjoy) or chess.

when it comes down to it though it is a form of bean counting (which may be what writing started out as keeping track of harvests) and you know me and beans ... :)

How I would love your knowledge to rub off on me.

investopedia has a lot of short bits to introduce topics and then you can wander around from topic to topic as much as you care to read. however the real long term aspect is the discipline of having a budget and mostly sticking to it and making choices to keep working on my plans for the longer term. not that i didn't enjoy my life and i sure don't feel deprived, but i've also not lived like many other people i've met so i'm certainly an outlier...
