Organic gardening 2025

The diet of a spouse can be an influence.

My and my wife's diets are similar. No, they are not exactly the same but difference can be a bother and, because of that, are limited if not eliminated.

Over years, I tried quitting tobacco many times. One time was when I first met the lady who became DW. She was strongly opposed to smoking. I had it so very much associated with work, entertainment and the outdoors, her attitude was something I just worked around. Nah. I wanted to be an ex-smoker and her emotional response to my relapses were a good motivation.

That's awesome. My husband has the mindset that I need to quit smoking but he doesn't because he has a reason to smoke. It's ridiculous

I'm going to do a serious search tomorrow for any way to get my body back to what I can. I don't like not having any strength or energy to do anything.

the sooner you can quit the better. i'm so glad i got out of the habit. i started smoking when i was 8yrs old and then when i started smoking pot at 13 i told myself i could do one or the other but not both and quit smoking cold turkey. since then i'd smoked a few cigars (but got so sick the 2nd time i've not done that since) and a little pipe tobacco, but won't do those any more - my lungs aren't that good to begin with (and haven't been since i was born). so best for me to stay away and only dream about it a little bit from time to time and get whiffs off other people who are lighting up. at the post-office the other day someone must have lit up in the lobby by the PO Boxes and it stunk so i told the manager so he could air it out. that's the first time in months i'd smelled much cigarette smoke.

anyone who says organic tobacco is healthy is crazy as far as i'm concerned. there's just way too many compounds and chemicals in that when you burn it that if you inhale enough of it it is going to have a negative effect on your health. oh, and someone also said that they weren't addictive. hahaha, utter BS.

oh, and chew is also very addictive. i tried that for a while. could not and am glad i stopped that.

Wanting to quit and quitting are two entirely different things!

The point here is; “make a decision, right wrong or indifferent; the road of life is paved with Flat Squirrels who couldn't make a decision!

Again; out of empathy, not meanness!

I suspect that you don't remember that post offices had both "ash units" with some sand in them for snuffing out cigarettes but ... spittoons for those who chewed. The post office and hotel lobbies seemed to be the last locations with these sorts of receptacles. Of course, smokers were very casual with their butts. I remember wondering how long it would take, with the banning of smoking from markets, before smokers would stop dropping their butts on the floor and stepping on them.

that makes it very tough to quit. i'm very surprised my SIL was able to quit because for many years she said she'd never quit. alas my brother still hasn't managed to quit and he would be much better off if he could. i've lost way too many relatives earlier than they'd have otherwise gone due to smoking/lung issues. :(

@akroberts There are meds like Varenicline (Chantix) and Bupropion (Zyban), are effective prescription medications designed to reduce nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Maybe worth a try.
I have actually tried the chantix and it doesn't help me because I am also a daily beer drinker. I don't know if I mentioned it but a couple of years ago I managed to stop for quite a while and I was only using my Trelegy inhaler about once every 2-3 days. It was awesome for me and today I am just really kicking myself right in the keester for starting again. This whole getting a cold and not being able to get enough air into my lungs is really hard and yet I know that this is going to be my wakeup call. I'm going to tell my husband that he's not allowed to leave ANY cigarettes here again. Yes I am going to be a non smoker
