Thanks @digitS'. Do you think that means I can leave them? I don't mind them taking nibbles as long as they don't annihilate the bush (such as squash bugs in a matter of a day). I'm sure my kids would love to watch them grow into beetles.
Thank you! I'm sure Google was :he as I searched "bug in a blanket" "turtle bug" "cocoon bug" "bug in a shell" "bug that looks like it's in a blanket" "bug larvae in a shell".... I'm gonna stop there at admitting how many different things I tried.:duc
There will be a hunting and squishing party...
I think I finally found it!!!!! :celebrate We're close enough to Texas to get their bugs.

It is softer than a shell (I had to go pluck one this morning). The underside of it actually makes it look like a blanket wrapped around the actual bug. When I grabbed it the thing sucked up in it's little cocoon/shell/blanket and just stared at me. Legs and all can come out and go in.
These little cacoon looking things are all over my blackberry bush. It's almost like a shell because their little legs stick out. Can anyone help me? What are they? Good? Bad?
