My chickens are on "lock down" while my garden is growing. I learned last year the hard way! They ate an entire bed of beautiful collard greens among other things!!! :somad I will let them out only if someone is going to be out there to protect the garden.
momofdrew: the wood he used to make the grids on the beds was the thin wood found in the trim section at home depot. Sorry I don't know the exact name....neither does he and he bought it!
ahhh... never even thought about the difference in growing season. :P They do tend to spread out a bit, but I grew them in my raised beds shown in the post earlier. I did not really hill them like the sweet potatos , and to be honest i didn't even think I had anything but the vines at first...
Hasn't anyone else just tried planting them the same way as regular potatos? :/ Mine grew like crazy last year and we had so many we ended up giving a bunch away. Just wondering why everyone else takes so many steps when we practically just threw them in the ground and had great success? :idunno
I will ask DH what it is called...it is some kind of molding i think... :idunno
last year we measured and eyeballed it... pain in the neck! this is much easier to keep track of...and as Mel says 'If there is no grid then it is not a square foot garden! " :coolsun
Thanks! ;)
Thanks! Weeding is sooo much easier this way. I never wanted to garden until i read about this method. I tried it last year and absolutely loved it! :celebrate
My garden is coming along well I think...Here is the garden...
Here are some of the beds that have things coming up....
Strawberries:
Potatos:
misc. veggies:
And our first harvest: Radishes!
Last year I planted sweet potato also. I planted them the exact same way as I planted the regular potato. Cut up the potato into sections with good eyes, let them dry out for a day or 2, then popped them in the ground. Had a bumper crop!! Boy were they delicious! :drool I can't wait for this...
