2022 Little Easy Bean Network - We Are Beans Without Borders

Yes indeed. Technically Jim Su was the source. :) No idea where he got it as he wasn't much of a gardener that I recall. His father was chief of the secret police in a Chinese province, first for the Quomintang, then for the communists. I'll post photos this year. It is exceedingly productive...

2022 Little Easy Bean Network - We Are Beans Without Borders

It's been a while since I've said hi. Last year involved a long distance move in-state and getting settled. I'm living near Petersburg, VA and am finally in a position to start a garden. The soil here is very soft and sandy, former farmland, but only the areas immediately next to the house have...

All but one are making tall vines. Now growing up new poles cut from a mimosa tree. I've meant to take photos but my evenings haven't been free this week.

@Bluejay77 Tennessee Green Pod is almost up or has overtopped the sticks I put in the tub they are growing in. I'm going to savage a weed tree in my fence to get some longer poles. This bean may be crossed with a pole bean or could be a pole bean in its own right.

No, I'm trying to grow out all, or almost all, of my seeds and see which I want to keep, which can be second string and which to toss or donate to more appreciative folks.

Update: 9 or 10 of the Gold of Bacau plants are up and making tall vines, Tennessee Green Pod is doing very well and may be semi-vining, Paula and White turtle are also looking healthy. Only Tenn Green pod seems to have all sprouted, but germination was excellent overall. Of my own beans, all...

Unknown Plant - Plantland in Manassas

Annette, I do believe you are right. A quick search of google images turned up examples similar to what I've seen my plant look like. Penstemon it is. :)

Unknown Plant - Plantland in Manassas

I purchased a plant with no label at the Plantland nursery in Manassas many years ago. It was attractive and on sale. To date I have no idea what it is except that it may be in the lamiaceae due to the rounded squarish stems and clasping leaves. Any thoughts on identity? Can I eat it?

I just checked my Easy Bean Network beans. Nothing was up this morning. Tennessee Greenpod and White Turtle bush beans are showing excellent germination this evening. Paula Bush and Gold of Bacau pole are still thinking about it.

Most everything I planted grew except for four: Piet Special, Pinkeye purple hull (extremely old seeds btw), store bought blackeyed pea (Iberia brand) and my African cowpeas. A few of the African, one of the Iberia, and possibly one pinkeye came up. The Piet seeds were still there and seemed to...

Yes, Zeedman was my source, both times. I grew the variety around 2008 and my family (parents, brothers, grandmother) loved them so much we saved almost no seeds at all! Those seeds succumbed to a cold and wet spring. My new stock was acquired a couple of years ago and seems to do well here...

I finally got my stakes set up last week. Fortunately the soil was still very soft and most could be dug into place with only a couple of them that needed to be hammered in for the final couple of inches so not much pain from that. There are 7 rows of 5 stakes set on 4 foot centers each side...
