Don --- Thank you so much for sharing! :) What do you do at the end of the season? Do you dump out the old soil and disinfect the pots and then add fresh soil and amendments (the chicken and rabbit "stuff" :) ) and let nature take it's course over the winter? I live in a large city and rent...

Thank you so much for your replies. :) I've been getting conflicting info. I've read/heard that the soil can be sanitized by "cooking" it (actually baking it in an oven), solarizing it (letting the soil "cook" in the sun), or by adding boiling water to the pots. Do any of these methods work...

I've been Container Gardening since 2009. Each year my garden got bigger and BIGGER. :D Last year, we had 2 deaths in our family and a snow storm and this hindered and prevented me from really cleaning up and putting the pots away. The pots stayed out all winter exposed to the elements...

Just thought I would report back. :) So far, I've sprayed the plants heavily with the milk solution, even the ones that did not seem to have any mildew. Everything "looks" better, but I think the squash vines are kaput. :( I will probably spray with the baking soda solution later this week...

I cut mine (I cut several slits down the sides of the peat pot) and fan them out as I re-pot the plant. HTH :)

Lisa - I truly feel your pain. All of my seeds started indoors failed last year. The first set, after about 4 weeks and the second set after about 6-8 weeks. This was about 30-40 or more at a time. :( I discovered the larger peat pots and those seemed to work better and I had about 8 pots...
