2026 Little Easy Bean Network – Plant A Garden, Water Your Soul, Join Our Family

Some bean photos for a rainy January day.
Last year I grew Rose for the HSL and two offtypes were identified.
First pic is the 'true' seed.
Offtype 1 produced tons of frosted seed, with blue-striped fleshy pods, a bit like Rattlesnake.
Offtype 2 didn't yield as much but had the earliest pods, which were curved and not fleshy.
Both offtypes were earlier than Rose and had pods without parchment.
The first off type is great looking bean. Did you keep the off types to grow out again?

I have an issue with Rose germinating in the pods, so I will be growing out the off-types to assess them.

Could you send a few seeds for me to Decoy of the first off type. That bean looks a little gray and black to me. Anyway Decoy will have a return package coming back one day.

Hi Russ, yes I kept all of the offtype seeds and would be delighted to send you a pack of 60. Would you like to grow them out this summer? If so, I can send you some next week so you don't have to wait for the network return package and delay growing for a year. Just checked the Royal Mail and there doesn't appear to be any issue with shipping to the US.

It would be fun to grow them out this coming summer. You can't declare them as seeds of any kind when you ship to the U.S. Customs will confiscate the seeds and destroy them unless we use my small seed lots account. If I email you all the documents you need to use can you print them out on your end?

Absolutely 😊

I'm peeking in on this thread for the first time after finding @Blue-Jay's website on my quest for unusual beans. I'm over the moon to have stumbled across fellow bean enthusiasts! My poor husband will be thrilled to be rid of my ramblings about my bean seeds. I hope it's alright that I'm popping in. Are there any special requirements for grow outs, other than a willingness? I have been successfully growing and saving my current varieties for five years now, and I'm a market gardener. I am also a research-a-holic, and focus heavily into bio-secure food gardens, naturally this path lead me to a grow an interest in heritage seeds. My love started with a fist-full of Scarlet Runner Beans in 2020 when my Step-Mom was trying to get me to grow a garden that might distract me from young-folk chaos. Obviously it worked, haha!
