My hubby was saying that they send out scouts to look for a new place. I just came back in & they were still there, alot more active though.
There's plenty of places for them to make a new home.Dang wish I did have a hive.
That's something I'd also like to get into.Would be nice to have some...
My hubby was walking the dogs & hollered at me to come see. They were on one of the fig trees out back.
I've lived out here 6 yrs now & every spring I've heard the bees swarming in the trees. Finally got a chance to see them up close doing their thing.Totally awesome :ep I could just watch them...
Ours is 200' by 60', gets alot of full sun & mostly fenced. :) Although it's over run with grass, I'll be planting stuff here & there. We don't have a tiller,so it's all going to be done by hand. :weight
thank you Reinbeau for the links. I'll have to check those out.
Mothergoat, that's so cool, grape vines that old. We do get very dry & desert like in the summers here. I'll be careful with the watering.
We had a horse a few yrs. ago, that pruned them back pretty bad.It didn't seem to hurt...
I'm not sure of the correct name for these, maybe concord??
I was wondering do you prune them every yr ? These have been planted several yrs ago & we will finally able to run water directly to them this yr.Maybe the will get bigger with lots of water.
Any advice would be appreicated, Miriam
My chickens free range & my EE babies went wild for the squash!! We usually have more than we can eat anyways.
My older chickens love the squash raw too.
cool pics yall. I love the different weeds that grow around our place. Most of them have beautiful flowers & attract all kinds of bugs.
Our thisel also attracts stink bugs & soldier bugs.
:(
We have lots of these at the back of our place. They are spiney & real tough weeds. We let a few mature so the butterflies & bees can enjoy. The blooms are pretty too.
Chicken_Boy , I don't know what you'd call our soil. :idunno I do know you dig down three foot & ya hit clay. This land used to be a river bed long ago.Lots of hardwood trees & cypress. We are surrounded by woods, but our 5 acres are mostly cleared.
Hi Chicken_Boy, yeah the 2nd pic isn't the best, I tired to show the vine running up the trees. Now those plants in the front of the pic are a type of bamboo that is everywhere in the woods here.
Hi, were the blacks spots on the fruit or the leaves?
If they were on the fruit, they are getting bit by stink bugs.Their bites make the fruit spoil.
If on the leaves,it could be sap from a
tree over the plant.
Well that's what MIL thought it might be,hope that helps ya some. :)
Hey that's okay, I'm not too good at spelling or grammer, lol.
Sounds like they are muscudines. Are they getting good sunlight? Is there anyway you can water it? We have some growing on our garden fence, summers here can be pretty dry.We just ran some water lines out to them & they were loaded...
