My mom makes the best strawberry jelly, I'm going to have to can hers this year ;) I'm jealous about your class! I have been looking around here for a canning class :hu I know I can't wait for tomatoes either.
I ended up ordering a 21-qt water bath canner from Amazon about a week ago. I wanted to buy one last year, but after looking on craigslist & ebay & still not finding a good deal, I decided to buy a brand-new one. I got it for about $18 and free shipping since I also bought a new book (about...
I just checked out your post & your girls are so cute! I'm going to attempt to hatch my own silkies next year. But sometimes I wonder if I can wait that long  Your garden is so nice & well put together...very impressive!
I originally was going to buy...but after doing a little research...
Desertgirl-
That would be great, if you don't mine pming me :)
Thanks for checking out my BYC page, I've never done a blog/page thing before & once I got started...well I just can't stop! I love to brag about my "girls," chickens are just so cool :D Yes, the chickens love the windows & so...
I am going to construct my own vermicomposting bin (if I like the concept, I'll purchase one, but I'm cheap!). But I of course, need the worms :)
Where did you purchase yours? I know there are several websites and I'm just looking for recommendations or comments...Thanks!
Thank you for the info on perennials :) Uhhh...I had no idea some herb varities were perennials  I like the concept of planting once & benefiting for years!
Well, I'm almost embarassed to admit this, but not really since I'm a frugal person (& proud). Buuuuttt, I get them at Target for a dollar! I buy the Wildflower mix each year.
Last year, I put a mixture also on the side of my house, but they did not do too great due to the location. W-side...
Debby,
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer all of my questions, what great info!
I am marking this page, so I can refer back to it :thumbsup
Wow, I had no idea mint was so invasive :hu Thanks for the bucket trick, I just picked one up @ Menards for under 3 bucks, so it'll definitely come in handy :D
Woooo, blueberries :D My fave fruit!
I finally got around to:
- planting my seeds (in the garden): dill (for the ladybugs), peas, sunflowers (for the ladybugs & chickens) & bibb lettuce
-my starters of: dill, pumpkins & peppers are outside getting used to the weather
-I bought 2 organic...
In the past, I have grown the super-basic herbs (basil, parsley, chives) in seperate containers. This year, however, I'm thinking about growing some different varities in one area, rather than have flowers. I bought seeds for these varities:
-basil
-cilantro
-dill
-mint
-parsley
Will all of...
This weekend is to be super-nice around here...and I'm sooooo excited :clap
Also, my mom & dad will be taking the kids, dh is working, so that means I have all Saturday afternoon & evening to plant my seeds, plants & work on my compost pile.
You all have made way more strides than me and...
After seeing your post, it really reinforced that I want to vermicompost. The tray composter seems like a great option. Thanks for helping me take the plunge :D
I was not going to put my chicken poo in the bin either. I read it tends to be too hot for the worms, so I'll keep the poo & shavings for my outside pile. Thanks for the heads up on the amount they eat, hopefully I can keep them happy
The only thing I have done is start off some seeds. I started sugar pumpkins, dill, variety of hot peppers, basil & red peppers. They are all doing pretty well, but I have seeds that need to be planted for my lettuce, peas & a variety of herbs. I was going to do it this weekend, since it was...
So, I have wrangled with the idea of getting a worm bin. At first I was, then I wasn't (chicken poo, too hot) & now I'm back to...I am
After reading Catalinas post & checking out that great worm bin, I really want to go for it. The bins aren't too expensive & I am just a little...
