Hmm, I've got my rack setting in front of my huge picture window and grow lights on too. I will check the lumens on the bulbs. Didn't know such a thing existed. What should they be?
Wow Steve that's a HUGE variety. I'm wondering do you have a specific use for each variety? I am always wondering what everyone does with the veggies out of the garden. Do you have certain ones you use to make sauce, or ketchup or ones for sandwiches?
oops forgot my list
Olivade (for sauce)...
Wow DPURDY, thanks for that list. I think the best place to store my seeds in is my cellar with some rice in the bottom of a jar.
Yep, 72 broccoli plants. I was worried they would not germinate and I would be left with only a few. I was wrong, my broccoli took less than two days to germinate...
They are a great company, I plan to use them more often. I have to say that my order for seeds from Fedco was a day long affair. But dixondale farms was a breeze! I do like fedco too, the catalog gives a lot of great information, but the ordering process needs some tweeking.
I've been gardening since I can remember my first memories. I do remember having to weed the corn. I remember having to go with my brother to the cow pasture and pick up cow patties for fertilizer. Dad would mix it with water and scoop it out and pour it over the plants. I must have been 4 yrs...
After reading their website over more I figured they were, so when I was at Wal mart this weekend I looked for them. Low and Behold there they were right on an end cap. I bought broccoli and cabbage (only to find out I already ordered them from Fedco).
Its nice to see Wal mart carry something...
Ok so I think I ordered too much seed, I bought some Seeds of Change broccoli, cabbage at Walmart and started them on the weekend. I just looked at my Fedco seed order and see that I also ordered broccoli and cabbage from them. I think I ordered too many beet seeds and some other seeds too. I...
I've never heard of seeds of change, what's the deal with them?
edit: OK so I can google, didn't read if Monsanto owns them though, but from the sounds of it they don't.
hmm, well it's alfalfa, oat and something else. It's a good quality hay that I don't think went to seed, it's the first cutting. I guess I'm going to have to try it to find out. I might use the black cloth with the hay on top. I.DON'T.HAVE.TIME.FOR.WEEDS.
Has anyone mulched with hay to prevent weeds and been successful? I am looking to cut my weeding down. Last year I used the black landscaping cloth and black plastic. It wasn't very successful as I still had lots of weeding.
I have two 4' x5' round bales of hay left over from the winter feed...
Wow, I just ordered my onion plants from dixondale farms and I have to say that was the easiest ordering process I have ever had with ANY seed company. They didn't even charge me shipping and I got 15 dozen plants for under 27.00. Yippee!!
I have never tried, but have read they are difficult, I'm not taking any chances. I did however purchase seed packets from fedco and will try my hand at them. I will order plants for a back up. If they all end up growing they won't go to waste. My sons love homemade french onion soup. I use LOTS...
Sorry for your loss :hugs I have Barred Rocks too, it's easy to get attached to them. They are a wonderful breed. Your girl was a doll, I love the pic of her on the basket. She looks like she's posing for you. I love your sign above the nest box, you must have taught her to read. ;)
No he didn't say why, I will see him tomorrow night and ask. I have a very large compost pile my FIL has worked for decades and it has not been used in the last 10 yrs or so. I will be sure to add that to my indoor starts. Thx
I am not going to start anything that can be direct seeded. I am...
