I would love to try this in a window! I have always wanted to have a salad mix and a herb mix all winter long.
But what would one do about drainage. You would not want it dripping on the floor, but you have to have some drainage dont you?
I know I may not end up with nearly what they said, I was just skeered there for a minute! We are hoping to have enough to store for the winter. And as far as the strawberries go, I would be fine with them if there was only enough for fresh use. I will be PLENTY busy with everything else I...
The peppers are slow, mine have been in for abour two weeks and they are still coming up. Have faith!! :) :D
I am going out to throw some seeds in my new annual bed with my DD and DS. I may also plant some beans. It is a little early, but it is sooo warm, and supposed to be all week. So I...
I have no sign of my potatoes yet either. I am also still waiting for my lettuce and beets and carrots and stuff... I dont really think it will come up. It is crusted over but still very wet underneath.
Anyway, at least there is a lot of seed in those packets and I can start again!
I have...
I know I keep starting threads. :) I am just really interested in everyone's different gardens. My dad always did the double digging method, which is a TON of work. I have thought about the lasagna or no-dig method, but we decided not to try anything new this year.
So I am sticking with...
I was talking about the hakkaido melon, sorry. :) I hope you can save seeds form them, I would love to have some!
I am growing the Desert King watermelon, it is yellow fruited. I would also like to try some Garden Huckleberrys, they sound interesting, but I diddnt get any seed for this...
What are those? Do you have a name or a place I could go to read about them?
My favorite to grow is any of the squash family. They grow like weeds here. Ever hear of the Rocky Ford Cantalope? I live about an hour from Rocky Ford. :)
That is funny, Obsessed. They probably think it is...
I am trying quite a few new things this year, so I dont have favorties yet. I am growing bushel gourds, pepino melons, kiwano horned melons, and luffa gourd.
What does everyone else like to grow that will puzzle and amaze your friends?
How do I tell? I planted lettuce, beets, onions, chard, and carrots. A lot of tiny seeds. Then the next day it rained, and rained, and rained... for three days. How long should I wait? I planted them on the 16th.
You can also try googling, say, beet sprouts or seedlings, and the click on pictures. I did that for my potato sprouts. But when in doubt, leave it. As it gets older you will find that they start looking like weeds you will recognize, or a plant you recognize. A few weeds for a few weeks...
OK, I planted ten lbs of potatoes. After I cut them in peices, I ended up planting 153 peices or so. And then I read that each plant will grow between 4 and 6 lbs. WHAT???? I could grow over 700 lbs of potatoes????? :ep
And then I planted 50 strawberry plants, and read that 25 would be...
I am at the bottom of zone 5b, so I guess it is close enough...
I have strawberries and garlic planted, and I have some spring veggies in, just seeds. Onions, carrots, beets, lettuce, peas, etc. BUT then it rained for three days, (not that I am complaining) and now I dont know how to...
I think that garden-at-church thing is a GREAT idea! We have several good gardeners at church, and it would be a great way to reach out to the community!
I dont think we have snails or slugs here, I have never seen one in my life. And they are tiny holes, like a flea beetle would make. Maybe earwigs, though. I will check. Thanks!
Yes, that is very simular to what I would be doing. I would be watering it, and it would not be in comtact with the plants untill it was watered in and decomposed some. And it will be a very small amount, much less then one inch.
We shall see! :)
I read the whole five pages, and saw nothing to help me. :)
Does anyone have experience with bugs on their house plants? I have something eating my ornamental sweet potato. It was outside last year, and then my Grannie gave it to me. It was doing great all winter, growing like crazy...
