This is my "garden". Its not much. Actually it needs a lot of work. We want to clear out all that grass and weeds and such and work the ground a little so we can plant stuff in the ground rather than in containers. My only problem is wasps, bees, and hornets. I'm very allergic and I don't have...
I went outside this morning to water the plants and found the corn plants (they were only a little over an inch tall, the others are barely above the soil) wilted over. I felt the dirt they were in and it was dry and a bone. My fiance claims they were watered yesterday. I immediately gave them...
Done! :)
Well my camera is officially MIA. I can't get pictures of the sprouts until I find it. I'll try and find it tomorrow morning but rah, that thing goes missing so much these days.
So, how long does it normally take after they sprout till harvest? I guess it all depends on the kind of...
Went out this morning and counted at least 20 sprouts. :) Since the sprouts are coming up right around where I put seeds and some are clumped together, they are definitely carrot sprouts.
They do look like that picture, but only the first two leaves, not the ones in the center, but they did just sprout within the past two days. I'm crossing my fingers that I don't kill them.
Well I think they are carrot sprouts. We have the planter box outside so it could be something else that got into the box and germinated. Our yard is covered in weeds. There are several of them though in around the same spots I put seeds. I counted at least 5-6 of them.
We have carrot sprouts, or at least I think we do. Tiny little things. And the corn is doing great. Lets hope I can get these plants to grow up and make yummy food for me. I'll try and get some pictures of all my plants.
My rats poo a lot. We clean the cages in shifts since we have over a dozen rats. They are like poo factories. I could put more nitrogen into the pile to balance it out. What could i use to do this?
I had another question. Roughly, how long does it take from beginning (adding materials to pile) to end (done composting) for a compost pile. I know its not an exact science and times will vary, but give me about how long it takes your compost to complete itself.
My co-worker has told me about a compost bin for $60 that I plan to get tomorrow. So hopefully we can get a nice pile going. We always have the "green" since we always have fruit peels, left over veggies, grass clippings, ect. As far as the brown, we have a good source if this is ok to use. We...
Just checked up on the weather and there was only a 40% chance of a storm and I think its not going to happen. Still windy though. Gusts up to 40mph it said, so I'll just keep the plants in till tomorrow.
There is little or no shelter from rain in my backyard. It consists of 3 sides of 6' high fence attached to my townhouse. It is getting REALLY windy outside. 17-22mph wind. I think I'm just going to bring them in, before it starts to rain.
I have 4 small cherry tomato plants, 1 medium sized regular tomato plant, and a planter box with carrot seeds in it. Should I bring these in from the storm. It's supposed to hit in about 30min-1hour. I've already brought the herbs in. Everything is in containers.
I love corn. I can't wait to harvest my own. Thankfully the corn isn't outside yet. I think the worst I'll have to deal with is birds. They are everywhere around here. No rats that I can think of though. I have pet rats though. :) But they are not allowed anywhere near my plants. They would...
Definitely let me know how that goes. I came home today and found that the little tiny green sprout is now an inch tall (these suckers grow fast.) and it has a neighbor. So that makes 2 one inch tall sprouts. And there is a little tiny one poking up as well, so I'm very excited about this.
I...
Well the seedlings are inside right now. I'll move them out when they get bigger. We have a lot of birds around. Do you think they will pull up carrot sprouts? I have the carrot box outside right now. Nothing has sprouted yet. Won't for a week or two I think.
I went to water all the plants this morning and I have my first corn sprout. Its only just poking up out of the dirt but its there. There was another corn planting beside it with its root exposed and growing fuzz. I had gotten curious yesterday and uncovered two of these plantings and found one...
