You know,I used to think garden gnomes were a little creepy - but I have to admit they've grown on me. A house down the street has one they keep moving around their yard, and my kids tell me it's game on their school bus to spot his new location. One day he was blown into the driveway during...
Actually - I'm pretty certain a prescription is required to buy medical needle syringes from a drug store. They are available on line, but only in bulk as far as I know.

For me It's Johnny's and Seeds of Change of course, and also this tiny company (one person I think, his name is Mark) in the midwest called Botanikka Seeds
He has a great selection of hard to find varties and very good prices, most of his seed packets are $1.49 to $1.99.

Yup, what everyione said - salad! It might not come back reliably every year, for some reason (in my yard at least) it waxes and wanes. As far as wild forage plants go it's right at the the top of the list for tastiness.
Chickens know a good thing when they taste it.

LOVE the photo of your Buff Orpington with her zinnia! They are one of my favorite flowers; foolproof, long lived in a vase, and the germination rate is virtually 100%. Really - I just toss them on the ground in any soil and they thrive. And their hot colors can't be beat.
The sturdy stems...
Natalie, funny you should post this, we have the same problem!
And I dont live that far from you. Our tomatoes are going crazy this year, very prolific, and like you it affects just a few fruits on certain varieties (Green Zebra and Marvel Striped so far.)
When I first stared to garden...
Trex is a composite wood & plastic material used for decks. It never needs to be painted, and it doesn't rot. It's about $2.50 a linear foot in our area.

Daytime temps have been in the 80 and 90's with no humidity untill this weekend, and nights have been in the mid 60's to low 70's. It's been a picture perfect new England summer this year.
The tomaotes are going crazy this year.....I really wonder now if it's the old seed.

I've never grown Tomatillo before, so I'm at a loss as to what the problem might be. The plant is big and robust, maybe 4-5 tall and with dozens of blossoms. But the blossoms never mature into fruit, they just drop off and eventually a very tiny fruit shrivlels up and falls off as well.
Now...
We've never grown them before, and there are two plants in this bed, about six feet apart....they are a leedle more vigorous that I expected!
And yesterday my husband found a watermelon growing on the steps!
This variety is Charleston, which I think are fairly large. We also have...
Another thing to consider is the ever shortening daylight. In the fall I can grow only the fast growing varieties of cool season crops, and they generally have to be under 50 days because, even though it's not that cold yet here in New England, there just isn't enough daylight by the end of...
It's funny, but I don't mulch at all and the the best way I've found to control weeds is a plain old stirrup hoe - as long its really sharp, and I do it on a regular basis, maybe every few days, I really don't have any problems.
Our raised beds are pretty high though (2 feet) so I also wonder...
Our stiffneck garlic is pretty tall, maybe two feet or so, and those crazy-looking twisty scapes are fully formed with the bulb-like things on the ends. How big should I let them get before I pinch them off?
