I left the seeds in, but I also added a bunch of onion, garlic, and basil. Which is why I didn't feel like canning it, I would have had to use the pressure canner, since their's quite a bit of low acid stuff in there
This story just broke today. Some special kind of bermuda grass has mutated and produced enough cyanide gas to kill 15 cows that had just been let onto the pasture. There's some debate as to whether the grass is GMO or an F1 hybrid (it's sterile, which leads me to believe that the genes have...
I decided that I wanted to make some tomato paste, but I didn't feel like canning it once I was done with the cooking, so I spread it on the tray that came with my dehydrator and made myself some tomato leather. I just pulled it off once it wasn't sticky anymore, tore it into smallish pieces...
Hubby grew up in an area where coyotes were a big problem. They would put bait (a rabbit or a chicken) staked out in the field in the evening. Then they would sit and wait with a flashlight with a red cover over it. Apparently the coyotes can't see the red light but the hunters could see the...
I discovered that getting your tongue pierced will pretty much guarantee a 10 pound weight loss, since you can't eat anything but crushed ice for 10 or 12 days. Of course, it will also make it hard to eat noodle for months, which helps keep the weight off. I don't imagine this would appeal to...
The bottom 2 pictures are definitely small praying mantises. They are predatory bugs, like Lesa said, a good guy. I'm not sure what the first bug is though.
I'm having a huge problem with them this year. They are all over my yellow squash, zucchini, pattypans, acorn squash AND my cucumbers. I'm seriously thinking of pulling them all out, burning them and starting over in new beds. Actually... that might just work, since I've got a couple of empty...

Tomatillios and ground cherry fruit both grow in a paper like husk. Deadly nightshade and silver nightshade fruits don't. So once it starts to produce fruit, you'll know
I have been drying basil for weeks. I have 3 quart jars of dried basil. I also dried onions, garlic, tarragon, summer savory, marjoram, and cherry tomatoes. I was hoping to do more pickles, but the squash bugs are really bad this year and neither my squash or my cukes are doing well.
Oh no, the in laws left last week. It was nice to see them...and then it was nice to see them leave, lol! Technology is not my friend. I don't understand, I love it so. Hubby says I have my very own electromagnetic field that fries electronics.
I have had the absolute worst luck with technology in the last 2 weeks. First my tablet committed suicide, then one of the kids spilled something in the computer. Hubby let me check my FB page from his iphone a few times, but he was afraid I might kill that too. Now we finally have the computer...
Just finished a blog post. It really has nothing to do with the garden, but I thought I'd share anyway.
