    Going BOLD! or TOO Bold?

I used to love a classic home, but as I get more into gardening and chickens, I can appreciate whimsical and fun aspects..I told a friend the other day who is thinking of having a chicken coop, "It doesn't have to be classy, it's supposed to be tacky so make it over the top!" My husband and I...

    Going BOLD! or TOO Bold?

I LOVE it! Green is my favorite color and it's hard to go TOO bold for me! Take a look at this family room we made over to our liking in the 1950's country house we bought last year. You should hear my parents tell how I ruined the place! (Before and after)

    Fertilizing for newbies

Thanks so much for your responses. So would most people agree that if the plant seems to be ok, I may not need to fertilize at all? Or at minimum, something like a 10-10-10 should give most everything a boost? I tried to start with a really good soil in the raised beds to begin with and I've...

    Fertilizing for newbies

I want to be able to give my garden everything it needs, but I'm a little overwhelmed by reading about different plants needing different ratios in fertilizers.. Most of my plants are in raised beds, but some are in the ground. This is my first year with a garden that I actually planned and...

Sweet Pea Planting on St. Patrick's Day

Oh good, my 4 year old son and I spent all day planting and he's so excited at the concept of just picking them off the plant and eating them!

Sweet Pea Planting on St. Patrick's Day

Whew, now I'm a little worried. I'm a newbie gardener but planted sugar snap peas along my picket fence (probably 50 plants)..They are about 3 inches tall now...Those of you who haven't been successful, has it been with sprouting or something afterwards? I'd be so disappointed if something went...

    Garlic

I have lots of garlic in the garden that I planted in the fall. Mine was also an experiment since I found several cloves sprouting at the Piggly Wiggly! So far, it's doing great! I dug one up about 6 weeks ago just to see how it was holding up!

    Chicken math

Ohhhh, how fun! I've also been wanting some Marans! I think seramas are beautiful, but wouldn't want to put them in with my big girls and only have one coop! Post pictures when you can!

    Potatoe Question

Walmart was about the same price as the local ones I bought from my hardware store...I just don't have very many local resources for them, though, so I grabbed them.

    Potatoe Question

Ironically, I just bought seed potatoes from the Walmart garden section yesterday and the price was almost the same for the "eating" potatoes.

Do you grow things purposely for the neighbors?

Yes, I do as well. Last year I grew lots of hot peppers for coworkers while I don't have much of a love for spicy things!

    Anyone starting seeds yet?

I have moonflower sprouts under lights! One was up Friday and I asked my husband to rig up more heat yesterday-this morning I had three more!

    The tulips have sprouted!

I have lots of mystery bulbs coming up here, too! I'm thinking they are daffodils, but will know soon enough! I just hope we don't get a hard freeze and they die quickly...What a waste it would be!

    Ideas for a specific border

Thank you! I considered also doing a vine, but was afraid of doing one that was very strong and would potentially overcome my little fence..Some of the big climbers here like the trumpet will eventually take a wood fence down! Yes, as most of my yard, this gets speckled light through part of...

    Ideas for a specific border

I (my husband) have just installed a picket fence around this front yard, leaving a space of about 2 feet betwwen the fence and our concrete driveway. I'd love to add some plants to that space, all the way up to the house. I love the shape of something "wild" like Mexican sage or butterfly...

Best ordering resource for climbing roses?

Update: I was in Lowe's this weekend with my husband and they had just gotten in the motherload of roses! I bought 7, 5 of which were climbing. Of those, two were Don Juan, 2 were ***something Blaze?, and one was a yellow type. $5 each! I'm so excited..I hope the price isn't indicative of the...
