wow! so sorry for that happening. :(
they are very strong and get a lot of nourishment from tearing apart rotting logs looking for grubs/worms/beetles...
one of the crab grass plants i got out of the north garden yesterday was spread out across nearly 6ft. i've never seen one that big. guess that garden soil is pretty good and plenty of moisture is retained when it rains hard enough because i have a ridge built up around the edge.
will be back...
heavy fog this morning, which is gone now. today and tomorrow are the warmest days in the forecast at 83-82F, chances of rains tomorrow but today is go crazy weed day again - would be nice to get the north garden done or almost done today.
i had that happen several years ago with a large podded edible pea (Green Beauty) where i went out to check the pods for harvest and they were full and drying down so i wanted them to dry fully before i harvested. as i'd not had any problems before with critters eating my peas i left them, went...
not too bad considering it is before 9:30am for me... Moody Blues, Ride My Seesaw, not my favorite song of theirs but it may fit this day. gonna be busy. :)
you will need fences if there are deer around. and chipmunks love raiding the seeds/seedlings. once they know you grow them... just a warning from experience.
@SPedigrees no, the last bits of lawn left are around the outside edges of all the gardens and decorations and i rarely water anything that far away (including the lawn itself - we get enough rains and if we don't i let it go dormant).
came across this looking for something else today - it's not solely related to beans, but still an interesting short read:

i did get the onions lifted yesterday and dried off a bit and then the dirt wiped off before putting into some boxes and brought into the garage. i'll need to rotate them at least once a day so they can properly cure without rotting - i don't have any place to hang them.
they look so much...
it's ramping up to the most crazy time of the bean season here and i'm glad for it because it has been a real challenge this year to even get to this point. 🤹♂️
