I have some dusty millers in a flower bed from last year.
Last winter, I didn't do anything to them and they were still alive this past spring, but they were really rough looking. For this winter, do I need to cut them to the ground? Or how do I get them to freshen up?
The few bulbs I picked up said to be planted in March-April. So would those be considered summer bulbs?
If I do let them grow and force them into dormancy, how do I store them?
One of the local stores, Menards, has all their bulbs for $1.00. (marked down from at least $4.00) So if I stock up this year, will they still be good to plant next year?
I tried to grow zinnias from seeds, but my lack of watering them put a quick end to that! I ended up buying some though and they have proven to thrive fairly easily!
I love your pictures- you must have a great camera!!
We have an old set of stairs in front of our house.
The stairs aren't used and are about 4 feet or so from the road. I thought some sort of flowing flower would be kind of neat, cascading down the steps... but I don't know what kind of flower that would be.
Any one have any ideas on what I...
I'm trying to figure out what I can freeze/can this year. (canning newbie... AHHH!)
Is there anything I can do with cabbage or is that an eat-or-lose-it type of veggie?
Yes, Red-Hen that does make sense. Since our little house doesn't have very good sun-access I may have to get a bulb like you suggested. I'm glad I planted hardy little plants so maybe they can pull through!
That is too cute... and I bet you're right, there will be peas popping up all over the place! Now you just need to get him a little hoe to help out even more! :)
Welcome to the OTHER side of BYC.
This site has me antsy to start our garden and my flowers... even though I have to wait until May 1rst so that the threat of frost is gone! Argh! It's almost as bad as waiting for baby chicks!
I planted Asters, Zinnias, and Snapdragons inside b/c the packages said they could be started early indoors.
They have all started growing and the Zinnias are very stemmy and about 3 inches in height.
Is this how flowers grow, or did I mess something up?
Wow... some of you guys have some BIG gardens!! :ep
Ours is 25' by 40'. We're planning on putting some stuff at his mom's house (stuff that doesn't need daily tending) and I think it's about 20' by 20'.
I think 25' by 40' is a lot of hoeing/weeding... I can't imagine going any bigger. I'm...
